The first Father's Day or, in Spanish, Día del Padre was declared to be the third Sunday of June in 1910. It is intended to be a day to honor men who serve as a dad whether biological, stepfather, uncle, grandfather or adult male friend. It is a time to honor them for what they have meant to you and your life.

Since givers and receivers of such honors have diverse personalities, it is important to think what would please the person to be honored. Some people send a card and/or make a phone call, particularly if they are far away. Gifts range from craft items to clothes or trips. Others take that special person out to a restaurant or grill at home.

How do you honor "dad?"

"I take him fishing! We can hang out together and don't have to say a word to each other, but we are together and that is what it is about," explained one man.

Another says, "My dad loves to golf and though I am not as good as he, he seems to enjoy hitting the links with me."  "Carrot cake. I make it, that is my gift for Dad. He loves it!"

To all you dads.....HAPPY FATHER'S DAY
