Title
If you have not seen Architecture of Hope, Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art, 756 N. Milwaukee Ave. celebration of their 20th anniversary, get there before they close on Sat., May 14 at 5 p.m.

Robert Manley, who curated the show, said that he developed the theme when thinking about how Chicago is known for its architecture. "Chicago had to rebuild itself out of the ashes of the fire.  Similarly these artists have somehow built themselves out of a problem. If you read their life stories, they have all had some kind of a tragedy or loss. Yet, they have found a way to re-orient themselves by making things."

Robert Manley explains his selection process

Manley is director of the Gregg Museum of Art and Design at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C. and author of many books on outsider art and three books for the Weird U.S. series.

ElZabar

Kahil El'Zabar studies two pieces

All the pieces are from the Intuit permanent collection, or promised to the collection. While some of the artists are from Chicago, not all are. As Kahil El'Zabar said, "the history of this show and gallery is that unrecognized people who are creative but are not recognized by the popular media are given value for their human effort."

Stroller

Chicago born, El'Zabar is an internationally renowned percussionist and composer with a lengthy list of credits.  Having served on many boards he has a true understanding of Intuit. "I appreciate the Board and the artists involved with Intuit."
