Within a week of Chicago Artists Coalition moving from 2010 W. Pierce in Wicker Park, Dutch Bike Company moved in. Dutch Bike rents, sells and repairs bicycles in addition to selling bike accessories.

According the shop manager, Vince Spina, they "moved to Wicker Park because it's a great area for bikes. There is a lot of bike commuting, a lot of people on bikes, a lot of bike traffic. I don't think there is a bike shop in the area that caters as fully to the bike commuter, someone who is interested in transportation and bike functionality, as much as we do."

Dutch Bike's focus is the city bike. Those used for transportation and commuting rather than those intended for sport. Most are upright riding bicycles, not those requiring weight in the wrist and hand. Chain guards and fenders are other identifiers for their bike type. As Spina, puts it "Our bikes are meant to be used as transportation versus recreation. You would use our bikes instead  of a car."

Open Tues. thru Sat. from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., their Sunday hours are noon to 5 p.m. One of their "mechanics" Chris Williams says their full repair services are for all bikes not just the brands they sell, which include Linus. Civia, Workcycles and Gazelle.

Owner Dave Schmidt has one other shop, which is located in Seattle, WA. To learn more about them, call 773.697.7618 or check them online.
