Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) will be issuing citations for public way violations starting Fri., Sept. 30. This targets a-frame sandwich board signs and flag type signs and results in a $500 fine.

There is no permitting possible for these types of signs. The Department of Housing and Economic Development states that these signs are considered unsafe for pedestrians and the and present untenable liability for the City.

Notification was not sent to the Wicker Park and Bucktown Chamber of Commerce until Thursday.

Editor's note: Let your favorite businesses know about this potential financial hit if they are currently using this type of signage.
