Logan Square's Katherine Duncan… a Zagat "30 under 30"

Katherine Duncan, founder and confectionista, Katherine Anne Confections, 2745 W Armitage Ave., is one of Zagat's "30 under 30." Her determination, at age 22, to become a successful entrepreneurial confectionista has brought Duncan to a position of high acclaim at 28. 

Since her brick and mortar café/shop opening last September, Duncan has doubled her retail sales. With that, there is more traffic from word-of-mouth as well. "Now people can come in and leave with their purchases instead of waiting to have it shipped from our online 'store'," said Duncan. "The other day a lady came in from California! 

"Our  truffle making parties are increasing too. They have them for bachelorette as well as other occasions."    

In the midst of enlarging their herb garden behind the shop, those herbs will be part of the 176 new truffle and caramel flavors that are offered each year. 

In addition to perfecting her artistry and business skills, Duncan's company is dedicated to reducing its carbon footprint. Their products are handmade with no artificial preservatives, flavors or colors. Using the finest natural ingredients, many of them are local or organic. The hand-dipped truffles and caramels are made with local Illinois honey and organic sugar. 

Store hours: Tue. And Wed. 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Thu. And Fri. 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Sat. 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sun. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
