Shop local: No rest for shoppers this weekend!


This weekend has no end of shopping opportunities to keep you shopping local. And then, of course, there are all the restaurants and libation stops from Grand Avenue all the way up to Logan Square.

Wicker Park and Bucktown
The Wicker Park/Bucktown (WPB) Chamber of Commerce Ugly Sweater Contest goes through Saturday for the Ugly Sweater Contest. There are pop=up ugly sweater parties at businesses in the neighborhood. Step inside and show off your ugly sweater by taking a selfie at each venue's Ugly Sweater Selfie Station. Instagram your snap @WPBCC with the hashtag #UglySweaterWPB.

West Town
The West Town Chamber of Commerce is putting on their first WinterFest. They are starting Saturday off with the Santa Sprint is on Division Street  from 10 to 11 a.m. 

LaSalle II elementary school is having their annual Snowman Making on Saturday from 10:30 to 2 p.m. at Division and Honore. Activities include: 6 foot plywood snowman that festers personalize with materials available on site or from home, hot cocoa, marshmallow roasting, carolers and more.  Snowmen are displayed on Division and Honore throughout the season. 

On both Saturday and Sunday they have  6 routes of the Jolly Trolley. Each route is two hours long with 5 stops. Each route costs $10 per route, but riders get a $20 West Town Gift Certificate to use in Jan and Feb 2015. 

All trollies leave from  and return to the South Pole Headquarters in EuroFurniture, 2145 W. Grand Ave. Headquarters has maps and information as well as various holiday attractions such as festive food trucks, a pop up craft shop, and live performances by ChiMe students. (For those driving to the area, there is free parking located all along Grand Ave.)  

West of Damen along Grand Ave will be the Holiday shop hop in the Grand Avenue Design District.  

Logan Square
Saturday only, Friends of Goethe School are having a Wrap it Up: A Holiday Shopping Event at the school, 2236 N. Rockwell, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. It is a one of a kind show with jewelry, hats, and bags for sale as well as gift items, beauty products and kitchenwares.   

Also on Saturday, In Logan Square, is their Holidays on the Square. A special treat is being able to talk to Santa at Play, 3109 W. Logan Blvd. Many more great shopping experiences await visitors around the Square. 

On Sunday, the Logan Square Farmers Market, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. is in the former Pierre's Bakery, 2755 N. Milwaukee (at Spaulding). This market includes NOSH vendors too including Our Urban Times' Rosie Quasarano, Cup & Spoon.
