Two teens charged in North Western armed robberies

Two teens were charged on Feb. 4 with felony armed robbery plus other misdemeanor charges in the armed robbery on Feb. 2 at 5:15 p.m in the 1700 block of North Western Ave. Both 13th and 14th District police officers were involved in the incident.

On Feb. 1, a White or Hispanic male, in the 2600 block of W. North Ave., possibly driving an older model Toyota Camry with four doors, pulled alongside a 13-year-old female and asked for her name, age and if she wanted a ride.

A male victim had his I phone stolen at gunpoint Thurs., Feb. 2, in the 1700 block of North Western at 5:15 p.m.

Two offenders fled the scene but an I phone application led police to them. They are in custody but are not charged as yet, according to Chicago Police Department's News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien.

A ceremony honoring six 14th Police District officers on Feb. 1 in Pulaski Park was prompted by the arrest of an armed robber within 12 minutes of the initial call for help. Proco "Joe" Moreno, 1st Ward Alderman, who initiated a Resolution, signed by Mayor Rahm Emanuel, made the presentation recognizing the officers for their service.

The offender approached a 31-year-old female victim walking on North Ave. between Homan and Pulaski. The victim and the offender relocated to an alley on the 1400 block of Monticello where the offender held a large knife to the victim and sexually assaulted her.

Reports of offender(s) in custody for these crimes is not correct.

There are to offenders in custody relative to another robbery.

A string of strong armed robberies are occurring in the 14th District which are targeting women walking alone.

In the 1800 West block of Haddon Ave., two teen-age burglars, one male and one female Black, were found in a man's home. They fled outside towards another group of individuals standing outside the home with an adult Black male, holding a shovel. Upon meeting up on the sidewalk, all offenders fled westbound on Haddon Ave.

According to FBI sources, the robber who hit two North Community Banks in Wicker Park and Ukrainian Village on Jan 6 is a serial bank robber. His last known robbery was Jan. 9 in Chase Bank at 1200 N. State Parkway.

As the owner and workers were cleaning up to close the Ukrainian Village Pizzeria, 2356 W. Chicago, at about 5 a.m. Friday, two men came in, each ordering a slice of pizza to go.

Within six to seven minutes starting at 9:14 a.m. Friday morning, two branches of the North Community Bank were robbed in Wicker Park and Ukrainian Village.

Descriptions of the offender, a short black man in his 20s wearing dark clothing, were identical for both robberies. In both cases, the robber gave the teller a note but did not display a weapon.

The 1700 West block of Wabansia was the site on Thursday of at least the eighth strong armed robbery on the near northwest side since December.  Women walking on the sidewalk are the targets and have been robbed of their purses, money and cell phones.
