Roberto Clemente placed second Cooking Up Change contest

Slow-roasted pulled barbeque turkey sandwich with slaw, apple-berry ice, baked sweet potato chips won Roberto Clement Community Academy, Western and Division, second place in the annual Healthy Schools Campaign's Cooking Up Change contest Nov. 3. Their chef mentor was Chef Randy Zweiban of Province. First prize, in the twelve school cook-off, went to Chicago Vocational Career Academy team.

With 900 students assigned to a building that maxed out at 350 about eight years ago, Thomas Drummond Elementary School, 1845 W. Cortland St., was one of the first multi-track Chicago Public Schools (CPS). Classes had to be scheduled so that all students received their educational hours annually.

A record number of birdhouses were up for auction as over 300 attended Friends of Pritzker School's second annual event. Attendees seemed to blend with and sometimes replicate images on Wesley Kimler's canvases hanging high over head in his huge studio space along the West Carroll industrial corridor.
