Humboldt Park community is invited to shape vision for new development surrounding Norwegian American Hospital


Coverage area around Norwegian American Hospital

Targeting 24 blocks around Norwegian American Hospital (NAH) in Humboldt Park, a new vision for a development and wellness project will be presented to the community at two different presentations next week. The May 15 event will be in English and the May 21 one will be in Spanish. 

Led by the planning firm of Houseal Lavigne Associates, both events will be held at Norwegian American Hospital, 5th floor, 1044 N. Francisco, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The area covered by this initiative is between Division, on the north and Augusta on the south between California and Sacramento. 

Founded in 1894, the same year as St. Mary's hospital, Norwegian American Hospital was in on the doorstep of closure in 2010 when José R. Sánchez took over as Chief Executive Officer. He led the efforts to turn the institution from red ink to black while increasing quality. 

In 2015 the hospital received the Patient Safety in Excellence Award from Healthgrades, a level that only 10% of American hospitals attain. 

In 2016, a partnership with the Hispanic Housing Development Corporation (HHDC) achieved the development of the 49-unit 65th Infantry Regiment "Borinqueneers" Veterans Housing developmentPappageorge Haymes was the architectural firm.
