Welcome to YOUR newspaper
Welcome to Our Urban Times --Where Community Communicates! Put another way…welcome to YOUR newspaper! "My newspaper?" Yes, your newspaper.
Life choices, economics, the economy, other work or life situations or complete dislike for "joining" may have limited your community involvement over the years. You may have participated in conversations that sound something like…the plea: "Would you please join the (name your own group)? It is really important to get everyone involved because this is our neighborhood." The response: "Oh I would love to, but I have a weekly commitment for 7 p.m. every _____ so I could not possibly."
Now from your own favorite computer spot, dressed (or not) in whatever with "bed head" or perfectly coifed tresses, you can participate...be involved in/with the neighborhood at a time of day or night that works for you and all your other obligations and sleep cycles.
Now you can know what is happening in your community and you can participate without physical commitment to the constraint of regular meeting times or places.
Now you can express your concerns without someone interrupting your train of thought. With any luck, someone you have never met will take your comments or ideas and build on them. A productive dialogue could occur.
Now you will be able to learn about all types of people and locations that you never knew were part of your community, possibly even next door.
Now you can meet people, learn about issues…some of which may have an affect on your life, work on an issue efficiently and have fun reading about or participating in a local event that you learned about right here in Our Urban Times
Whether you have experienced being averse to involvement or not, I invite you to choose to enrich your life, support the survival, quality of life, enjoyment and growth of our richly diverse and historically significant area by:
