Calendar full of activities for weekend Aug. 28-29
The calendar is overflowing with activities in our community for Aug. 28-29.
Celebrating their 25th anniversary, Bucktown Art Fest will be in full swing from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days. Artists come from far and wide to join local artists displaying a broad offering of items from paintings, drawings and sculptures to jewelry and furniture. In addition there will be live music, theater, dance, spoken word performances on stages throughout the fest. Food and drink will also be part of the fest. Location is the Senior Citizens Memorial Park at 2300 W. Oakley Ave. and 2300 W. Lyndale St.
St. Helen School and St. Helen Parish Festival can be found on the 2300 block of West Augusta Blvd. More activities will be in the 900 and 1000 blocks of North Oakley Blvd. Featuring Carnival rides and games, music and dance performances, a beer garden and food booths. Proceeds are used to help keep tuition at St. Helen School affordable and for other school projects benefitting students.
Streets to be closed are: Augusta from Western to Leavitt and the intersections of Oakley north and south of Augusta.
Wicker Park Committee's 2nd Annual Family Ice Cream Social will take place on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the courtyard of the Wicker Park Cloister at 2114 W. North Ave. The old fashioned social will feature hot dogs and Margie's Candies ice cream. Kids will be occupied by music and games too.
Down in the Ukrainian Village on Saturday, there will be a Farmers' Market and a recycling drop-off and 2200 W. Rice St. from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be organic, locally grown vegetables, fruit, flowers, baked goods and honey with family fun, including a magician.
There will also be a recycling collection of paper, plastic, glass and small electronics at St. Nicholas Cathedral School. Early attendees will have a choice of receiving a CFL light bulb or a rain barrel.
On Sunday, St. Nicholas Cathedral School Pancake Breakfast will take place at the corner of Rice and Leavitt from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The St Nicholas Parish School of the Arts Open House will take place on Sunday from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Teachers and students will be demonstrating and talking about various subjects that will be offered. This is to take place in the Old School Building at 2226 W. Rice.
So have fun but remember to protect yourself from the heat and humidity out there!
