Kevin Womac's family, Boulevard Bikes, was at last week's Logan Square Farmers Market planning for Like Bike

The First Annual Like Bike Ride and Celebration starts Sun., Sept. 18, in the Bucktown and Wicker Park Library parking lot at 1701 N. Milwaukee Ave. at 9:30 a.m. With lots of fun planned for the secured ride/walk up Milwaukee Ave. to Logan Square between Whipple and Sacramento, individuals and families from all over the area are cleaning up their bikes for this community event.

The parade will be led by a 14th Police District car. Grand Marshals include: the new Vice President of Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, John Hennelley; Adam Burck, Exec. Dir. WPB; 35th Ward Alderman Rey Colon; 32nd Ward Alderman Scott Waguespack; 1st Ward Alderman Proco "Joe" Moreno; Elaine Coorens, Our Urban Times, Editor/Publisher; Laura Weathered, Exec. Dir. Near NorthWest Arts Council; and some other surprise guests.

The ride/walk will be completed on the south side of Logan Blvd. between Whipple and Sacramento. There more activities will take place including Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center. They will provide health screenings and education. The Junior Women's League of Chicago will target children with their Train Project, encourage healthy eating and activity. All three Aldermen will be available to talk about their support of more biking in Chicago: 35th Ward Alderman Rey Colon; 32nd Ward Alderman Scott Waguespack; 1st Ward Alderman Proco "Joe" Moreno. And there will be more!

In celebration of the impact cycling can have on people, places and things, this multi neighborhood and multi Ward event is to bring community together. With the possibility of Milwaukee Ave. being part of the 100 miles of new protected bike lanes being installed in Chicago under Mayor Emmanuel's program, it is important for all in the area to know more about biking. Sunday can be a start. If you are not already part of the biking community come out and learn more. If you are part of it, come out and share your knowledge with others and meet more community people.

Registration can be done on line. Registered or not, be sure to be in the library parking lot at Milwaukee and Wabansia at 9:30 a.m. on Sun. Sept. 18!

After Like Bike activities you can pick up some fresh food at the Logan Square Farmers Market between Whipple and Milwaukee.
