Join the Police at National Night Out in Humboldt and Smith Park Tuesday

Both the 13th and 14th Police Districts are throwing parties for their communities in local parks, Smith and Humboldt, Aug. 3 starting at 5 p.m.

Commander Judith Martin, 13th District, invites you to join in the festivities to give a going away party to neighborhood crime and drugs at Smith Park, 2526 W. Grand Ave. between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.

They will have food and refreshments as well as activities for residents of all ages.  The Jumping Jack and juvenile fingerprinting are for kids but there will also be music, a car show, Jesse White Tumblers and members of the Chicago Police Mounted and Canine Units.

The 14th District Commander Linda Flores extends an invitation to Humboldt Park for activities that will go from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Boathouse, 1359 N. Sacramento Ave. Local business support has given this district opportunities to expand their offerings. In addition to food and refreshments, they will have entertainment including "Michael Jackson," comedian Vince Acevedo and a 12-piece orchestra.

Activities are to include: D.J., Funny Little People Show, Antique Car show, Dunk a Cop, pony rides, rock climbing, petting zoo, a military display and motorcycle display. In addition there will be four police units: Bomb and Arson, Mounted and Canine units, and Chicago Police Pipes and Drums. The Fire Department is also participating.

The first 300 people will receive an American flag. There will be a free raffle for six youth bicycles.
