Shopper stock up on River Valley Kitchens' fresh mushrooms

Buy local, buy fresh at the Logan Square indoor farmers market each Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the lobby of the Congress Theatre at 2135 N. Milwaukee Ave. through March 28.

The Congress' lobby bustles with activity of people buying, selling, eating and enjoying music by a local musician.  Last week John Greenfield played the harmonica, guitar and sang.  This week they are featuring Supercolliders, a Balkan inspired folk group.

Some seventeen vendors display a wide variety of offerings from sprouts to teas and homemade cookies.

Several Wisconsin farmers offer a broad selection from grass fed beef to tomato based products and mushrooms.  An Elgin beekeeping couple offer many edible honey products as well as soap, candles and beeswax sticks.  You can watch Vera Videnovich spin yarn and have a taste of the newest vendor's, Su Van's, veggie chili while you shop and chat with the other vendors and shoppers.

Those in need of knife sharpening, including serrated edges, can bring them this week to Dave the knife sharpener.

Paul Levin, Executive Director of the Logan Square Chamber of Commerce,  explained, "We are happy that we can sponsor a farmers market almost all year long.  The generosity of the Congress Theatre makes this winter market possible."
