Perfect match-up: Spring weather, Mother's Day and the Wicker Park Plant Sale

Filled tables at opening quickly empty...early shoppers have best selections

Flowers, plants, herbs and vegetables, fresh from the growers, will be ready for gardeners as well as Mother's Day shoppers this weekend at the annual Wicker Park Plant Sale May 12 and 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., west side of the Field House (rain location: the gym), 1425 N. Damen Ave.

Hanging baskets, flowering annuals along with perennials, herbs, vegetables and house plants will arrive at the Field House on Friday, the day after a hearty group of Wicker Park Garden Club members make their annual trip to Ted's Nursery. Once the truck arrives, club members sort and price the selections for the Saturday opening of the two-day event.

Unloading the truck on Friday begins the tasks before the sale opens on Saturday morning

As local shoppers look for gifting and planting choices for planting season 2018, the knowledgeable, experienced Garden Club members will be on hand Saturday and Sunday to give them customized suggestions.

Children are welcome at the sale too. They will be given four-inch pots to decorate then fill with soil and plant seeds ready for gifting to mom or starting their own garden.

This two-day sale is a major fundraiser for the 10,000 sq. ft. of Park Gardens which are designed, funded and maintained by the Wicker Park Garden Club and are registered as part of the Chicago Park District Community Gardens in the Parks Program.
