This season's Wicker Park Farmers Market will be open for business starting this Sunday, May 18. No, really! A message Friday afternoon from the Wicker Park/Bucktown Chamber of Commerce (who are running the show) said the permits have been received from the Chicago Park District. And not a moment too soon.

According to the volunteers at last Sunday's Wicker Park Garden Club plant sale, there were quite a number of inquiries as to where to find the farmers market. I think people are getting anxious for proof that something can actually grow in all this cold weather. Expect 9 plus vendors this Sunday and more as the season progresses.

Also on Sunday, and a few miles to the northwest, the Logan Square Farmers Market is having their opening day. Jumping the gun, Lyon's Farms couldn't wait, or rather their asparagus couldn't wait, as they've been selling produce on the site for the last couple weeks.

The start of the Logan Square season will see at least 20 farmers (again, with more as the season progresses), 15 processed and prepared venders and a few purveyors of miscellaneous products like Mushyface Cookie Co who sell treats for your doggie. The Logan Square Chamber of Commerce sponsored market, this week, will feature Monroe Elementary Music Program students between noon and 2 p.m. and the Community Tent will be manned by Habitat 2030.
