During the first Polish Triangle Market Place sponsored by the WPB (SSA #33), many shoppers were surprised and delighted to see the new farmers market venue on June 30 in the triangle of Milwaukee, Ashland and Division. Vendors indicated that business was slow but feel that it will build over the next several weeks.

"I like it a lot. We go to the Sunday market in Wicker Park, but this is great," said Amy Miller who was juggling a very tiny baby, another child on a tricycle and bread at La Boulangerie's.

Betsy Fritz and Daniel Murphy, who moved in up the street onMilwaukee, think using the Triangle is a great idea. "They never use this for anything," commented Murphy. "This is a great space and I think that it should be used more."

"I learned about the market through the Wicker Park Chamber," said Harry Dispensa . "This shows how great this area could be." His wife Hilda and daughter Hanna were very interested in shopping for goodies at various booths.

While some vendors may look familiar because they sell at other Chicago farmers markets or they have a brick and mortar presence, Scrumptious Pantry actually sells through local markets such as the Green Grocer on Grand Ave, the Dill Pickle Food Co-op in Logan Square and Olivia's Market in Wicker Park. As a relatively "new kid on the block," Lee Greene explained that the farmers' markets will give her a chance to test new products on market goers.

"People are excited to learn that this market is happening," said Greene. "Many are looking around asking 'What is this? Are you going to be here tomorrow, is this part of the fourth of July?' We say, 'No this is your new farmers market.' Then they are very happy about it."

The Polish Triangle Market Place will continue thru September 29, each Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m.
