Late arrival of Datarock at Double Door was soon forgotten

As soon as I walked into the Double Door for the Datarock show last Wednesday, I was approached by a concerned Datarock fan who wanted to know, "When is Datarock going to come on already? I've been here since 8, I think I'm going to go home and take a nap!"

Then a couple informed the bouncer that they were going to go walk their dog and return for Datarock's set. It was approaching 11:30 p.m on a Wednesday night, and the crowd was visibly restless.

Just when it seemed everyone was reaching the height of their impatience, Datarock marched through their crowd of eager fans and climbed on stage, wearing their customary Kraftwerk-esque uniform of matching red track suits with sunglasses.

Lead singer and guitarist, Fredrik Saroea, informed us that the band had arrived in Chicago from London that same day and were understandably jet-lagged. However, this did not keep them from delivering a very energetic and engaging performance. Band member Kjetil Møster made frequent trips into the crowd to boogie with the fans on the floor. Møster graced the audience with several well-executed saxophone solos, usually played practically off the edge of stage over the heads of many appreciative fans.

In mid set, they dedicated one of their hits, "Computer Camp Love," to the late Steve Jobs. Datarock has been featured in advertising by Apple and is featured in the popular iPod touch/iPhone game Tap Tap Revenge. It was a fitting tribute.

They continued playing energetically and enthusiastically for the rest of their set. Overall it was a late night and we were all tired, but despite jet lag and day jobs, we found ourselves dancing to Datarock's electro-disco beats that night. It was a concert well worth the wait!
