The Illinois regulatory panel for health, Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board,  approved the merger of Resurrection Health Care and Provena Health on Wednesday in a unanimous 8-0 vote.

Sandra Bruce, president and chief executive officer of the new organization, said she is grateful for the state board's unanimous approval.

Expected to be finalized on Nov. 1, the merger of Chicago-based Resurrection and Mokena-based Provena will result in the largest Catholic health care system in Illinois. Together there are twelve hospitals (including a Provena facility in Urbana and another in Danville), twenty-eight long-term care and senior residential facilities, fifty primary and specialty care clinics and six home health agencies.

A new name will be determined for the system through a combined decision of the various organizations coming together in the merger. It includes Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart, Servants of the Holy Heart of Mary, Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth , Sisters of Mercy of the Americas and the Sisters of the Resurrection.
