The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are investigating a multi-state outbreak of Salmonella Newport infections linked to onions. There have been 396 reported cases in 34 states, including Illinois, with 59 hospitalizations.

In concern that extraneous materials, specifically hard plastic, may be in ready-to-eat beef and chicken taquitos and chimichangas products, several products are being recalled, according to the United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
