One toy can mean a lot

All new, unopened and unwrapped toys for children 14 years and younger put in a box by the desk in the 14th District (Shakespeare Station) Headquarters, 2150 N. California, will be delivered to community kids in need this Christmas.

"We want to help children who may be going through tragic times or whose parents cannot afford to buy toys," says CAPS Police Officer Martita Cervantes. "Without these gifts, Christmas will be just another day for many kids. One gift can make a big difference."

As a mother of four, Cervantes relates to how terrible it will be for kids to not experience the sense of excitement and joy of having a new toy during this festive holiday. She also sees how this annual drive helps build relationships with District residents.

Toys will be randomly distributed by tactical officers and will be taken to various domestic violence and other shelters with needy children in the District.

Toy donations have a ripple effect in neighborhoods, helping build relationships and trust neighbor to neighbor, including the men and women in blue who serve and protect all Chicagoans 365 days a year.

NOTE: The food drive is also on at the 14th and online  TO DATE, DONATIONS ARE DOWN!
