A criminal complaint was filed today by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) against Martin Crennan for the robbery at the North Community Bank at 1555 N. Damen in Wicker Park.

According to the affidavit, the robbery occurred at about 11:40 a.m. on Aug. 20, by a white male, approximately six feet tall in his late forties with facial hair.  He was wearing a grey t-shirt and black baseball cap. He approached a bank teller at the counter and stated, "I have a gun. I want all your large cash, I have a gun, I will shoot you." The teller handed over approximately $1,382. After the robber left the bank, bank personnel called 911.

Security cameras confirm that Crennan fled the bank heading north on foot with a trail of red smoke behind him and a red stain on his pocket.

Responding to the 911 call from the bank, the Chicago Police Department officers observed a man matching the offender's description walking westbound on Wabansia. They stopped him and in the search recovered approximately $656 on and near him.

Later Friday afternoon, the FBI took custody of Crennan. During his interview, he admitted to the robbery.

The money was protected by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).
