Two carjackings in Wicker Park in 24 hours


The first of two carjackings in the Wicker Park area within 24-hours occurred, Sun., Aug. 9 at 9:50 p.m. The second at 9:40 a.m., Mon.,  Aug. 10, according to the Chicago Police Department. 

On Sunday night, a 37-year-old man parked his car in the 1600 block of W. Beach Ave. and began walking towards his residence. He was approached by five unknown male offenders who surrounded him. One offender was described as being between 15 and 20-years-old.

One offender pointed a gun at him and demanding his personal belongings and his car keys. They fled eastbound in the victim's car. 

Second carjacking
Having just dropped her child at Wicker Park's camp program Mon., Aug. 10, at 9:40 a.m., a woman returned to her car in the 1500 block of N. Damen Ave.  

Two masked black men dragged her out of her car then drove north to Milwaukee Ave. where they proceeded north. 

Fortunately no one was injured in either event.

Area Detectives are investigating, no one is in custody for either crime.
