Two shot in Wicker Park Friday night

Two males in their twenties were shot Friday night at approximately 11:30 p.m. in Wicker Park. Both are in stable condition. One has a gunshot to the leg and is in John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital and the other is in Illinois Masonic, according to Chicago Police Officer Amina Greer.

Two neighbors had just walked around the Park and were approaching their home on Schiller Ave. when they observed two groups of black men. Each group had four to five in it. One group was on the street side of the Park fence and the other was in the Park.

"I just went upstairs when I heard shouting. I looked out and one group was jumping over the fence into the Park chasing the other group. Then there were 6 to 8 shots fired, " said Mike Payette. "It appeared to be gang related."

The shootings occurred on the Wicker Park Ave. side of the Park. A Chicago Fire Department truck was the first responder to their 911 call, followed by the Police and Ambulance.

Police are in the preliminary stages of the investigation.
