Two teens charged in North Western armed robberies
Two teens were charged on Feb. 4 with felony armed robbery plus other misdemeanor charges in the armed robbery on Feb. 2 at 5:15 p.m in the 1700 block of North Western Ave. Both 13th and 14th District police officers were involved in the incident.
In the 14th District, robbers got away with a 26-year-old man's belongings including his car keys, wallet and I phone. Using an iphone app, police were able to spot the victim's cell phone on the move according to Police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez.
When located, police attempted to have the car pull over. While attempting to elude the police, the driver, Toheeb M. Long, 19, from the 0-100 block of N. Waller, crashed the green 2000 Honda Accord into a 13th District police car at Ashland and Madison and then kept going. The second person in the car, Andre Fulton, 18, of the 800 block of N. LeClaire, jumped out of the car and took off on foot.
Running a check on the car, police learned that the car had been stolen from the 1500 block of W. Sunnyside. One team of officers went in pursuit of the car. Long abandoned the vehicle in an alley in the 2300 block of W. Monroe, taking off on foot. There was a brief struggle when officers caught up with him before restraining him. Fulton was captured near the crash scene of Madison and Ashland.
Other misdemeanor counts against Fulton and Long include theft, resisting arrest and trespass to vehicle. Both are in the custody of the Cook County Sheriff's department with a Feb. 9 as their next court date. Long's bail amount is set at $100,000 and Fulton's at $150,000
