Ukrainian Village Pizzeria robbed by gunpoint Friday morning

Date:
01/06/2012
As the owner and workers were cleaning up to close the Ukrainian Village Pizzeria, 2356 W. Chicago, at about 5 a.m. Friday, two men came in, each ordering a slice of pizza to go.

Instead of paying for the purchase, they went around the counter. One of them began waving a gun around threatening the the staff and a patron in the restaurant. The entire episode was caught on a surveillance camera system put in just a day earlier.

After several attempts to open the cash register, the drawer was opened and they grabbed cash, dropping paper bills as they were leaving the business. Picking some of them up, they fled. Two system videos may be seen on this Chicago Tribune site.

The Chicago Police Department detectives have this as an open case.
