Demarcation of  historic districts determined by the Chicago Landmarks Commission is intended to be achieved visually with special signage. Such signs are generally created and installed in the order of when the district was established.

The Wicker Park District, established in 1991, somehow was not bestowed with those markings in that order.  Last fall, however, Our Urban Times reported that the signs would be forthcoming. More than three months later, one sign is installed at the corner of Hoyne and LeMoyne.

Once the signs are made, it is up to the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) to be installed. Like all other City departments, they have a series of rules and guidelines. When we learn of the completion of this task, we will put it as on update on this story.

Ukrainian Village's historic district, established in 2009, has their signage while both the Milwaukee Avenue District and the East Village District are waiting for theirs. According to Heidi Sperry, Senior Architectural Historian in the Historic Preservation Division of the Department of Zoning and Land Use, the signage for the last two local districts in the area will be created after a legal issue concerning  the signs is resolved.
