Putting up Christmas decorations by himself in a church, at about 7 p.m. on Dec. 19, George Matwyshyn fell from a ten foot ladder. Injuries were to his head and arm.

"The ladder slipped and I went down with it, but I did not lose consciousness. I called my wife (Lidia) who got my son and they took me to Northwestern Hospital, " explained Matwyshyn.

Though he was light-headed and nauseous, the CAT scan revealed no skull damage. By the time he was released from the emergency room around 3 p.m. the next day, he had 80 stitches in his head. He returned to the hospital on Dec. 23 to have his shattered right arm put together with a steel plate and screws.

George did attend midnight services, however. "I was at the midnight services, but I sat through the service. I was just happy to be there in reasonably good health," he commented.

"I plan to return to work when the doctors let me, though I will be staying off of ladders for a while. I also strongly suggest that no one go up any ladder without help."

Follow-up decisions are to be determined this week about whether he is to get another cast or move on to rehab.
