Long Path to Freedom

Long Path to Freedom continues. It is a special exhibition presented by the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art, 2320 W. Chicago Ave., that documents and reflects upon the activism, unrest and trauma experienced during recent ongoing political crisis surrounding the Ukrainian revolution: A period widely considered the country’s most tumultuous since achieving independence in 1991.

A well loved and highly collected Ukrainian artist, Maria "Mika" Harasowska-Daczyszyn’s life and creative path are deeply intertwined with her life in Chicago. Mika, as her friends and colleagues called her, immigrated to the United States from Ukraine in 1949. Her talents transcended many mediums and allowed her to leave a rich legacy of works behind.

Sunday is the last day for the A Century of Embroidered Fashion at the Ukrainian National Museum, 2249 W. Superior St., features embroidered articles of clothing, along with photographs and fashion accessories from the Museum’s permanent collection as well as items received from the Ukrainian community.

Over 50 vintage embroidered dresses from the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's have generously been loaned to the museum especially for this exhibit.
