Dada gives birth to Surrealism: Ducahmp and Magritte

in
Sunday, August 10, 2014 - 4:30pm - 6:30pm

Salon discussion at Out of Line Art Gallery: Surrealism emanated from Dada yet preferred to dive inside (into the subconscious), rather than address social realities and social threats such as class society, militarism, fascism, the war.

Artistically it adopted many of Dada's novel use of collage, photomontage, readymades, random words or letters blended in the visual creating new meanings and concepts, as well as the idea that what we see is not necessarily what is.

Dada Feminists and Gender Benders

in
Sunday, July 27, 2014 - 4:30pm - 6:30pm

Salon discussion in conjunction with Dada Turns the Tables art show.

Dada artists despised Bourgeois aesthetic and social norms, painting life on the streets and its less glamorous side, using ready-mades (salvaged objects) and rejecting ideas of sexual oppression and suppression, denial of the human body and it's natural expression.

Dada art expressed feminist ideas, assertive and bold among women artists, somewhat ambivalent, among male artists.

Dada Turns the Tables: Art show & Performance

in
Saturday, July 12, 2014 - 7:00pm - 9:30pm

Performance and show opens in Out of Line Art Gallery at 7 p.m.

Living in the shadow of WWI bloodbath, Dada used art as a metaphor for life. Like the war, it doesn’t make sense. Or so it seems.

Prominent artists of the early Dada period, used collage, photomontage, painting, ‘readymade’ objects and oddly juxtaposed images in a seemingly random, senseless order, yet created intriguing compositions, metaphors and concepts with a new more implicit surreal yet very real meaning.
