Alderman Proco "Joe" Moreno announced that he will be spending approximately $402,000 of his $1.32 million in 2011 menu money on resurfacing ten streets. "I made my decision about what streets would be resurfaced based on the severity of the issues on the street," Moreno commented.

Annually each Chicago alderman receives an allotment under the Aldermanic Menu Program to spend on local infrastructure needs. In 2011, $1.32 million per ward was allocated from the Chicago Improvement Program (CIP). Infrastructure project options include the repair and upgrade of streets, alleys curbs, sidewalks, traffic signals, street and alley lighting and street pole painting.

The streets are:

  • N. Campbell (between Fullerton and Altgeld)    ...... $36,760
  • N. Campbell (between Augusta and Thomas)   ......   46,310
  • N. Rockwell (between Lyndale and Fullerton)    ......   47,573
  • N. Rockwell (between Augusta and Thomas)    ......   33,725
  • N. Washtenaw (between North and Wabansia)  ......   33,302
  • W. Haddon (between Western and Campbell)  ......   46,990
  • W. Hirsch (between Leavitt and Western)        ......   83,909
  • W. Le Moyne (between Western and Artesian) ......   15,470
  • W. Race (between Wolcott and Damen)          ......   33,021
  • W. Superior (between Oakley and Leavitt)      ......   24,681

Work is expected to be done during June and July.

Funding for CIP includes proceeds from user fees, bonds, and taxes. Some projects are funded by special assessments, such as the Shared Cost Sidewalk Program, in which the City and property owners share the cost of replacing sidewalks. While upgrades to roadways, etc. can be funded from  Federal and state monies.
