New English teacher in China: Rudy DeJesus from Alderman Moreno's 1st Ward office

Rudy DeJesus shares his excitement about his new venture with Jerry Gabrielatos, 1st Ward Office, and 32nd Ward's Kerri Stojack

A member of 1st Ward Alderman Proco "Joe" Moreno's staff since 2011, Rudy DeJesus leaves that job and the City, bound for Songyuan, China.

"I saw an ad online for a teaching position in Reach High English School. I applied and had a few Skype [internet phone call] interviews," explained DeJesus on Friday, Nov. 15. On Monday, he was on his way to his new adventure. Having spent 2007 in China on a college study-abroad program from Augustana College, this new adventure has some built-in familiarity.

Songyuan is located in Northeast China in the Province of Jilin on the Songhua River. With a population of close to 3 million, the city covers about 8,500 square miles. Described as an exciting modern city, the school's information says that one can enjoy the modern Chinese life "while still experiencing the rural and uncommercialized aspects of the community. Songyuan is still a very Chinese city with no English spoken or advertised - it offers our teachers a unique taste of beautiful northern China."

"I am extremely excited to start this new experience and environment," said DeJesus. He also said he would report to us from his new location.
