Forma Construction to present new renderings for Wicker Park's former church site

Rendering shows the proposed Evergreen and Schiller elevation

The Wicker Park Committee's (WPC) Preservation and Development committee (P&D) will be reviewing new renderings on Tuesday evening, July 17, for the proposed construction of two buildings from 1907 to 1911 W. Schiller.

Peter Stevens, Forma Construction, who has a contract to purchase the property, has been working with architect John Conrad Scheiss on revamping a previous design for the 1907 W. Schiller building.

While the community expressed agreement with the 1909 and 1911 building, there has been a series of objections to proposals for 1907 W. Schiller. This new design is in response to the comments and requests.

Originally designed for four units, Stevens has dropped one unit and now has three units designed for the 1907 W. Schiller building. Most significant is the design elements at the tip of the building at Evergreen and Schiller.

Schiller elevation is shown in this rendering

Reminiscent of the style of the original 1800s two-flats that were located at 1909 and 1911 W. Schiller, each is designed with two duplex apartments. Each of the four units will be approximately 2,106 square feet.

Both 1909 and 1911 are in the Wicker Park historic land district but 1907 is not.

If approved by the P&D committee, the design would be presented to the membership at their next monthly meeting, Aug. 2.

WPC's P&D committee's meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Wicker Park Field House, 1425 N. Damen.

This property was to have been a reuse of an existing property. The building collapsed in October 2016 and had to be razed.
