Minor accident leads to fatal accident east of Noble and Division


Engine 30, Haddon and Ashland, called to the accident scene

A 6:31 a.m. call on Thurs., Apr. 24, to the Chicago Fire Department was for a pin-in incident at Division and Noble Streets. Engine 30 from Haddon and Ashland responded. 

On the scene, east of the expressway, they discovered that a person was pinned underneath a semi-trailer truck. Using air bags, they were able to extricate the victim at approximately 6:56 a.m. 

According to the Chicago Police Department (CPD), the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Reports say that victim was a truck driver who was taking pictures of a minor accident between his vehicle and a van when the rear wheels of a semi ran over him. The semi was exiting the Kennedy Expressway going east on Division. 

According to a report in the Sun-Times, the victim was said to be in his 30's. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office can not release any information until the CPD contacts the victim's family. 

The Sun-Times also reported that the female driver of the van was so traumatized that she was transported to Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, 2233 W. Division St. 

CPD's Major Investigation Unit has the case for follow up, according to a CPD spokesperson.
