Trowels ready? Two annual plant sales this weekend: Wicker Park and Logan Square
Two plant sales this weekend can give gardeners a head start on their 2019 gardening season and provide unique Mother's Day gift shopping.
Ten people worked a total of more than 50 shopping hours on Thursday selecting vegetables, herbs, flowering plants and house plants to fill 50 tables for the Annual Wicker Park Plant Sale, 1425 N. Damen, Saturday and Sunday, May 11 and 12, from 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Plants go quickly, so be sure to be at the park early.
There is a special kids area both days. One space is for painting artwork to be used in a soon to be created music series banner. Another area is set up for kids to decorate pots then plant them with seeds for gifts for their mom or another special person.
On Saturday only Medula Chiro One will be giving health tips.
All proceeds go to maintaining the 10,000 sq. ft. of the luscious Wicker Park gardens.
The Paseo Prairie Garden is having their Mother's Day Plant Sale and Arts and Crafts Mercadito Artesanal at 2614 N. Kedzie & Milwaukee Ave., near the Logan Square Blue Line station, will be open for business on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
They will be offering 50 varieties of Native Illinois plants for sunny and partial shade areas as well as potted plants for balconies, herbs and vegetables.
"Bring your wagons and/or large canvas bags to carry your purchases," advises Rosita De La Rosa, Fundraising and Volunteer Coordinator for the Logan Square Neighborhood Association (LSNA). "We takecash and credit cards with ID."
