Gardening on your mind?: Time to plan with the Wicker Park Garden Club

With the holidays over, are you noticing gardening thoughts creeping into your consciousness?

It is time for gardener's thoughts and dreams to contemplate the coming planting season and take action.

The mail-order plant, seed and gardening supplies purveyors know this and time their catalogs delivery to about now. Some seed companies jump the gun because some of us, like Our Urban Times own English Gardener, start their plants in the winter months indoors and under lights so as to get an early start on our relatively late spring Stokes seed catalog arrived shortly after Thanksgiving!

Backyard garden, requiring low maintenance

For anyone contemplating what to do with a bare patch of ground in their yard, or a patio, or roof deck without greenery or a much neglected parkway, the Wicker Park Garden Club is again offering their landscape design class this January and February.

More formal entrance area

For the next eight Saturday mornings, starting January 7, a group of professional landscape designers and a dozen experienced gardeners will walk students through the garden design process. By the end of the eight weeks, students will have a viable site plan showing overall design and a plant pallet.

Professional designers will lecture on site plans, design specifics, architecture in the garden, soil amendments and of course plants…lots and lots of plants. Teacher assistants, our experienced garden club members, will aide students throughout the process. This course is geared towards gardeners at all levels; beginner or experienced.

For the specifics, visit the class site.
