Merger closed: Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center part of largest Catholic health care system in Illinois

Final papers were signed Nov. 1 and the largest Catholic health care network in Illinois was created by the merger of Provena Health and Resurrection Health Care Corp. Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, 2233 W. Division, is part of newly united eight Resurrection and six Provena hospitals that total 3,581 beds with 22,000 employees and 5,000 physicians.

The yet unnamed new entity is being led by Sandra Bruce, previously named CEO of the combined entity. The rest of the management team is taking shape with Anthony Filer, previously chief operating officer of Provena, overseeing operations and Jeannie Frey, previously general counsel of Resurrection, managing legal affairs.

In celebration of this new "birth," Sandra Bruce and people from throughout the system are in a You tube video.
