No goats but several sites: Recycling Christmas trees


Evergreens are great food for goats!

While feeding your Christmas tree to a goat in Chicago is not as possible as in Fariboult, MN, what is possible is recycling it responsibly through the City and the Chicago Park District between January 3 and 21.

Last year Christmas tree recycling kept 650,000 pounds out of landfills. That came from more than 19,500 trees. This year can that record be broken?

You can participate by taking your untrimmed real (not plastic or metal) tree without a stand to:

  • Garfield Park, 100 N. Central Park Ave.

  • Jackson Park, 6300 S. Cornell Ave.
  • Kennedy Park, 2427 W. 113th St.
  • Kelvyn Park, 4438 W. Wrightwood Ave.
  • Lake Meadows Park, 3117 S. Rhodes Ave.
  • Lincoln Park*, Cannon Dr. at Fullerton Ave. (Parking lot east of Cannon Dr.)
  • Margate Park*, 4921 N. Marine Dr.
  • Marquette Park, 6700 S. Kedzie Ave.
  • McKinley Park, 2210 W. Pershing Rd.
  • Mt. Greenwood Park*, 3721 W. 111th St.
  • North Park Village*, 5801 N. Pulaski Rd.

For those who would like to benefit from free mulch, they may pick it up from parks marked with * above: Warren Park, 6601 N Western Ave; North Park Village, 5801 N Pulaski Road; Mount Greenwood Park, 3721 W 111th St; Margate Park, 4921 N Marine Drive; Lincoln Park, Cannon Drive at Fullerton Ave (east of Cannon); and the forestry site at 900 E 103rd St. They must bring their own containers.
