Wicker Mic debuts its 6th season Friday

The Lucero family

Sign up begins at 5:45 p.m. in Wicker Park

Cancelled: There will be a rain date announced soon.

There will only be three times to show off your talent this year during Wicker Mic. The first is Fri., June 26, 6 to 9 p.m., Wicker Park, 1425 N. Damen, in the Softball Field Near Schiller. The closing act will be the Lucero family who have returned from New Mexico.

A few years ago the Lucero Family (Dad and four sons) performed during Wicker Mic under the name Cielito Lindo Family Folk Music. Then they moved to Albuquerque, NM. Learning of their return to Chicago, Nat Tubbs invited them to be in the honored position of the evening's closing act.

In its 6th season, Wicker Mic provides a wonderful opportunity to chill out on a summer evening with friends and family or by yourself in a beautiful park, listening to a variety of talent that ranges from sweet and charming to rockin'.

Nate Tubbs, New City Church, and John Shirk, Urban Encounters, man the sound system

Each act has 5 minutes which usually means two songs, three poems or 5 minutes of stand-up. The microphone, keyboard and a guitar are available thanks to Tubbs and New City Church, who organize the series.

The show begins at 6, those who want to perform can sign up starting at 5:45 p.m. For more information, contact Nate by email.

While the grass is provided, audience members need to bring their own chairs, blankets and picnic.

The other two shows will be July 31 and August 28.

The Wicker Mic series is in partnership of New City Church, Urban Encounters, the Wicker Park Advisory Council and the Chicago Park District.
