Chicago beaches open with new warning system -- swim at your own risk

With the opening of Chicago beaches on Fri. May 25, at 11 a.m., the Chicago Park District (CPD) will no longer close beaches to swimmers based on e.coli levels.

Austin Pierce charged in three robberies

Charged with three counts of Armed Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, Austin Pierce, 25, is from the 2800 block of N. Oakley. He was taken into custody on May 24th and identified by victims.

War on graffiti is underway in the 1st Ward -- superheroes are needed

A team of 1st Ward graffiti removal "heroes" are looking for like minded neighbors on May 26 at noon starting at Clemente High School, Division and Oakley, and June 2 at 10 a.m. at Wicker Park, 1425 N. Damen.

Grants for visual artists, curators and groups available

In its third year, the Propeller Fund grant deadline is August 1. Sponsored by Gallery 400, University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), and threewalls, 15 grants will be awarded to independent visual artists, curators, and visual art groups in Cook County.
