Mayor Rahm Emanuel announces new IB program coming to Roberto Clemente Academy

Announcing that Roberto Clemente High School will be the third International Baccalaureate (IB) wall-to-wall school in the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) system was the purpose of a press conference at the high school on June 22. Mayor Rahm Emanuel said that the IB program is rigorous and that it appears that the three key elements for a successful IB program are present in the school and community.

Green Music Fest will include music, food and beverages, green village, family fest and street closures

For the second time in four years, the Annual Green Music Fest (GMF) will be located on North Damen Avenue between Schiller and North on June 23 and 24 from noon to 10 p.m. with a suggested donation of $5. Street closures are from 1 a.m. on Sat., June 23 to 5 a.m. on Mon., June 25.

Congress Theater had second hearing in City Hall

Once again, there were several community members at the second hearing on June 19 for the Congress Theater, at 2135 N. Milwaukee Ave., under the Deleterious Impact/Public Nuisance Ordinance. It was agreed by all participants that there had been progress with the Congress meeting the list of issues identified at the Apr. 17 meeting. It was also agreed that there were more steps to be taken before the next hearing on Aug. 16.

Three area pools did NOT open June 15 and Wicker Park Fountain is dry

Three of the 12 Chicago pools that did not open on June 15 are Pulaski Park, Hamlin Park and Union Park. In addition the historic Wicker Park Fountain has no water.

Violence on Milwaukee Ave. early Friday morning sent one victim to the hospital

At 4:30 a.m. in the 1500 block of N. Milwaukee, June 22, a 43-year-old man was punched then hit the back of his head on the ground resulting in head injuries, according to Chicago Police News Affairs.
