Residential Burglaries cause Chicago Police Department's 12th District to alert residents

Burglars pried open doors or broke in windows to enter residents in the 12th Chicago Police Department  from the end of June to mid-July.  That has prompted the District to alert residents. 

The unknown offender(s) forced entry into these homes during the day and evening hours, according to the police. 

The incidents were:

  • 1800 block of W. Chicago Thursday June 25 at 11 a.m.
  • 1200 block of W. Erie was between Thurs. and Sun., July 2 to July 5, during the hours of 10 a.m. and 4:10 p.m.
  • 1400 block of W. Chicago Fri., July 10 at 10:45 p.m.
  • 1400 block of W. Huron Mon., July 13 at 3 p.m. 

What you can do

  • Always be aware of your surroundings
  • Ensure all doors are locked prior to leaving
  • Report suspicious activity immediately
  • If you are confronted by an assailant remain calm
  • Remember any unique physical characteristics (scars, limp, acne, teeth, etc...)
  • Never pursue a fleeing assailant, provide the information to the police
  • Ensure to have friends and family periodically check on your residence if gone for extended periods of time
  • If approached by a witness to the incident, request contact information
  • Dial 9-1-1 immediately and remain on scene when possible
