Ukrainian Village and Humboldt Park hijackings trigger 12th Police District alert


Two Aggravated Vehicular Hijackings in Chicago Police Department's 12th District have caused an alert to be issued.

In both these cases the offenders, displaying a gun, approached the victims and demanded car key's or their vehicle:

  • 2600 block of W. Rice Jan. 8 at 7:30 p.m.
  • 1100 block of N. Western 17 Jan. 7:55 p.m.

The offender(s) are being described as 19 to 25 year old Black or Hispanic males between 5' 8" to 6', weighing between 150 to 200 pounds.

What you can do

  • Always be aware of your surroundings
  • Lock all doors in the vehicle
  • Pay special attention to any suspicious people loitering in the area
  • Ensure all entry points are secure and locked prior to leaving
  • Report suspicious activity immediately
  • If you are confronted by an assailant remain calm
  • Remember any unique physical characteristics (scars, limp, acne, teeth, etc...)
  • Never pursue a fleeing assailant, provide the information to the police
  • Ensure to have friends and family periodically check on your residence if gone for extended periods of time
  • If approached by a witness to the incident, request contact information
  • Dial 9-1-1 immediately and remain on scene when possible
