Get on board the Blue Line Holiday train with Santa Friday and Saturday

Santa will be at a station near you

Once again the Chicago Transit Authority is brightening travels along the Blue Line with a six-car Holiday Train, running between O'Hare and Forest Park. Set your plans for Fri., Dec. 13, and/or Sat., Dec. 14. On Saturday there will be a second six-car CTA Elves' Workshop Train. Both trains are sponsored by Allstate.

One elf greeter gives a thumbs up

Santa and his reindeer greet everyone from his special open-air flatbed car on the Holiday Train. In the cars, riders will be surrounded by countless sparkling, twinkling lights, special fabric covered seats.

Strands of multi-colored lights are strung inside the two trains along with red bows, garland, red and green overhead lighting and hand poles wrapped to look like candy canes. Santa’s elves greet riders with plenty of candy canes for good boys and girls.

On Saturday the Elves' Workshop Train will run behind the Holiday Train, giving more opportunity for families to enjoy a "holly jolly" time in similarly decorated cars.

Photos with Santa will be possible on Saturday at Forest Park between 2:30 and 3:15 p.m. and at O'Hare between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m.

Ralphie the Reindeer Bus
A 60-foot bus, transformed into a winter wonderland is a way CTA is saying "thank you" to customers throughout the neighborhoods.

Named Ralphie the Reindeer, this bus, with a big red nose, has a special rider in the back of the bus...Santa! He's in a perfect location to take a quick picture with the special rider.

The story behind the story

Santa's Express was pulling into the Damen Station in 2018

It all began in 1992. A “Season’s Greetings from the CTA” sign was placed on the front of an out-of-service train used to deliver food to various charities.

Twenty-one years later more people have an opportunity to enjoy the enchantment of the holiday season with the special trains running on all the CTA rail lines.

Most importantly, each year CTA employees donate their time and money to purchase groceries and assemble food baskets for delivery to community organizations across the city.

This year, we'll donate approximately 500 food baskets to local community organizations.

Each food basket contains all the ingredients for a complete meal including a canned ham, potatoes, mixed vegetables, muffin mix, macaroni and cheese, fruit cocktail, green beans, corn and dessert.
