CTA notice and information for riders


"Please practice social distancing," requests the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA).

"As a precaution against the spread of COVID-19, we ask you all to keep as much distance between you and others as possible to help promote a healthy travel environment for everyone."

Working closely with the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH), Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and monitoring information from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO), the CTA is following industry best practices. 


Those practices include multiple levels of cleaning:

CTA tips for riders

Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
