Flores responds to community questions

Following the taping of his final 1st Ward Chronicles cable TV show in the Harold Washington Library late Tuesday, Alderman Flores addressed the two major questions that have been buzzing through the 1st Ward since Monday when Governor Pat Quinn announced that Alderman Flores is his appointee for the chairmanship of the Illinois Commerce Commission.  The questions are: "Why is he taking this state job?" and  "Who is going to be his successor?"

Alderman Flores' response to  why the state is "The Governor asked me to take on this huge responsibility of moving the State forward relative to utilities, water conservation and trucking at a time when there are many paradigm shifts.  It is a pivotal time for land and natural resource containment.  My legal background and experience, work as a government aide and efforts to bring together 'green' in technology, environment, construction, natural resources and jobs is what led to this proposed appointment as the ICC Chair. Illinois can not be left behind in these battles."

"I am honored to be asked to spearhead these efforts.  Holding public office, to me, means serving the public, not yourself.  While I will not be the alderman any longer, I am not leaving the area.  I hope that I can continue to help the community and our neighbors."

In answer to the second question, the alderman continually used the word "continuity."  "I believe in continuity.  My staff has made it possible to achieve all the challenges that have occurred in my ward in the last several years.  They are good people who have done good jobs and can continue the agenda that we have set forth.  I am not leaving the neighborhood, so I would hope to be able to be an on going resource."

"The mayor is, of course, the one that makes the decision as to my replacement, but I do believe in continuity and I think that he understands that."
