Outgoing 1st Ward Alderman Proco "Joe" Moreno in police custody
Proco "Joe" Moreno, soon to be former 1st Ward Alderman, is in police custody on an arrest warrant, according to the Chicago Police Department.
However, the Police are not revealing where he is being held or what the warrant is for. When the booking process is completed, details of the arrest will be released.
It is believed that the warrant is related to Moreno's Jan. 4 false police report about his leased 2016 Audi A6 sedan being stolen.
Moreno loaned the car to Liliy Hrabar, 35, an insurance agent on Jan. 3, then reported it missing the next day.
The car was stopped on Feb. 3 because the headlights were off. Hrabar was charged with a misdemeanor trespass to a motor vehicle and put in jail overnight.
Hrabar said that she met Moreno in September 2018 and, according to her, she dated him on and off. She said that she was shocked when she was pulled over and told that she was driving a stolen car.
The story broke in the news on the night Moreno was at a candidate's forum in Root's, 1924 W. Division St., in February.
Moreno told WGN TV's Meghan Dwyer that evening, “We were having a miscommunication about when she needed to return it [the car],” said Moreno. He explained that they dated on and off, that she was a single mom and that he was trying to help her.
However, texts show they had been in contact the whole time.
Daniel LaSpata, who won handily over Moreno in the election will be taking his 1st Ward seat in City Council on May 20th.
