Katharine Schutta returns to the exhibition scene at DreamBox Gallery in the WOW District

"Tiny Dancers"

After 10 years, Katharine Schutta returns to the world of exhibitions with Collage at DreamBox Gallery, 2415 W. North Ave., in the WOW District (west of Western Ave). The exhibit ends on Sept. 27.

"Schutta culls, crops and realigns images of contemporary art and art history, science, technology, and the natural world from a vast collection of auction catalogues, magazines and books," explains Iwona Biedermann, owner of DreamBox.

"In Tiny Dancer a peephole cut into the middle of ants moving in a circular pattern reveals a fragment of a caress rendered in soft pencil by Egon Schiele In her collage titled Beauty," says Biedermann. "A languid Christ floats in Gerhard Richter’s red sea, a meditation on desire. In Embrace, Peter Halley’s "Brute" masks the faces of Giotto’s 'Joachim and Anna,' its cold geometric system in counterpoint to Giottos’ rich humanist expression."

Schutta is currently the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs and Co-Director of Career and Co-op Center, School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She was formerly with England's Royal College of Art. As an artist, she has exhibited in the States and aboard.

DreamBox Gallery's hours are from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturdays during exhibitions and by appointment via phone 773.292.0419 or via email.
